Saigontourist Travel Service Boosting Summer Tours

In the first five months of 2006, the Saigontourist Travel Service Company has earned VND183 billion (US$11.437 million), up 12% compared to the same period last year

The number of international tourists visiting Vietnam was 23,500, up 20%, while that of outbound tourists was 5,800, up 20%. Local tours welcomed 32,500 tourists. At present, Saigontourist is one of the few top travel companies to provide quality service for international and both inbound and outbound tours.

About 7,000 travelers took international tours on sea cruisers, three times as many as at the same point last year. Inbound and outbound tours were popular thanks to the Premium Travel program for tours to Nha Trang, Halong, Danang, Dalat, Cambodia, Europe, Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S.

Cambodia welcomed more than 1,500 tourists from the company and Phan Thiet-Dalat, Hue-Hoi An-Danang and trans-Vietnam tours received at least as many visitors.

Saigontourist also hosted 1,500 international MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, Exhibition) tourists, 120 of which were with the Autodesk program, 60 with APEC, and 120 with IBM. At the same time, more than 3,000 domestic MICE customers took part in the MICE programs in Vung Tau, Austria and Cheju Island.

Vo Anh Tai, director of Saigontourist Travel Service, said the company is doing just as well with the summer tours so far. In the meantime, the company is introducing a number of inbound and outbound tours like "Colors of the Mekong Delta," "Paying Homage to the Southernmost Land of Ca Mau," "Paying Homage to the North," "Vietnam's Beauty," "Nha Trang - a Celestial Night," "Discovery Nha Phu Lagoon," "Marvelous Nights in Halong," as well as a World Cup tour and tours to South Africa, the U.S., Russia, South Korea, Japan, and Beijing.

From the beginning of May to the end of June, the company served more than 10,000 tourists on local tours and 3,800 outbound tourists. The most attractive destinations have been Nha Trang, Dalat, Phu Quoc, trans-Viet tours, Cambodia, China, the U.S. and Europe. (The SGT Weekly - No.28 - '06 (771) - July 8, 2006)

Cycling Tours and Opportunities to Discover the Best of Viet Nam

Foreign visitors are riding on the street in southern Viet Nam.

Nowadays, traveling by bike is tourists’ favorite. It is not only good for health, but also brings opportunities to discover the diversified culture and life in the country.

Cycling tours have been set up in recent years and attracted many domestic and foreign visitors who love adventure and discovery.

There are two forms of cycling tours: sightseeing tour within the distance of 20 kilometers; and adventurous tours, which are intended for young people with the long journey of 100 kilometers or more.

Saigontourist usually plan the cycling tours in southern Viet Nam. In special long-day tours, lasting half a month, visitors will enjoy delicious fruits and specific beauties of the southern countryside, including ancient pagodas, vast ricefields. They can do gardening with their homestay family members and savour local specialities.

Fiditourist has once introduced the cycling tours to young visitors. The company usually designs routes of northwest arc and coastal lines, crossing mountain passes in the central Viet Nam.

The trips crossing Cu Mong and Ha Van mountain passes, with mountains and forests on one side and blue sea on the other, left strong impression on tourists.

Most organizers have careful preparations for these cycling tours. There are cars following to help tourists in hazardous roads where they can not ride.

Because of the growing demand, tourist companies have offered many cycling tours to the Highlands, the Mekong Delta, the Truong Son mountain range, the central Viet Nam, etc.
The price will depend on the length of the trip and the services provided. Anyhow, the cost of cycling tours is not as expensive as that of others.

According to Mr. Truong Hoang Phuong of Saigontourist, itineraries passing through well-known places, including temples, pagodas, relic areas, ricefields and gardens laden with fruits, are often incorporated into the tours. Those are opportunities for tourists to learn about local people’s life and culture. When the tours end, tourists will keep the hall mark of Viet Nam’s landscapes.
